Today, 12th February 2026, the Zambia Union of Government and Allied Workers (UG) convened a strategic planning meeting through the Secretariat, led by the Union General Secretary, Comrade John Nsululu, together with Directorate staff. This meeting focused on service delivery and growth.
In his opening remarks, UG’s General Secretary, Comrade John Nsululu, mentioned that this meeting takes place at a time when the operating environment for trade unions, particularly within the public service, continues to present both significant challenges and emerging opportunities.
Matters relating to membership retention and growth, collective bargaining constraints, governance expectations, financial sustainability, and ongoing policy reforms remain central to the union’s mandate. At the same time, our members are increasingly demanding greater visibility, improved responsiveness, and tangible results from the Union.
“This planning meeting, therefore, provides a critical opportunity for us to pause, reflect, and realign. Over the next one and a half days, we will review our performance against the UG 2026–2029 Strategic Plan, assess the prevailing situational realities affecting our operations, and agree on practical, costed, and implementable departmental work plans,” he said.
During the meeting, a key area of emphasis was strengthening mechanisms for the efficient handling of members’ complaints and enhancing overall service delivery to improve membership satisfaction. The Secretariat also took time to reflect on the challenges faced by provincial and district leaders, exploring practical solutions to better support them in executing their responsibilities effectively.
UG remains committed to building a responsive, transparent, and member-centered Union.
