GOVERNMENT CALLS FOR PROFESSIONALISM AND QUALITY IN THE PUBLIC SERVICE
17th October, 2025
Eastern Province Permanent Secretary Mr. Paul Thole has called for professionalism and quality in the public service. He said it is a responsibility of the Government, the union, including an individual public officer, to deliver quality public services to the citizens.
The public looks to the workers for timely, efficient, and fair service delivery in education, health, social protection, the local government, and other key sectors. He said this during the Provincial Labour Council held in Chipata today.
The speech was read on his behalf by the Assistant Secretary, Mr. Clement Chilembo. He mentioned that the Government remains committed to enhancing service delivery through the incorporation of technology and innovative practices that will modernize our systems, reduce inefficiencies, and ensure that services reach even the most rural and underserved communities.
Meanwhile, Zambia Union of Government and Allied Workers (UG) President Mr. Muyayuwa Kabisa appreciated the presence of the government, represented by the Guest of Honour.
He mentioned that this demonstrates the government’s willingness to engage with the Labour movement and listen to the voices of the public sector workers.
While UG’s General Secretary, Mr. John Nsululu, said that this conference is not just a statutory requirement under the union’s constitution, it is a platform for collective reflection, dialogue, and strategic planning.
The Provincial Labour Council was held under the theme, “Building Power, Defending Rights; Organising for a Just Public Service”.
