The Federation of Free Trade Unions of Zambia (FFTUZ) President, Dr. Muyaywa M. Kabisa, has urged all Union leaders to deliver strong leadership, solution-based and futuristic strategies that can address the various industrial and other social economic challenges currently being faced by the country.
Dr. Kabisa called on trade Union leaders to be proactive so as to safeguard the economy amidst the on- going Middle East conflict. He said, in addition to the already existing challenges, the war has given birth to additional problems which require all actors to come together for purposes of problem solving.
Dr. Kabisa emphasized the need for introspection among union leaders, encouraging them to come up with possible remedies to their current institutional challenges.
He congratulated the new Zambia Union of Financial Institutions and Allied Workers (ZUFIAW) leaders at their 14th Quadrennial Conference, reminding them to honor members' trust with member centric actions.
Speaking at the same event, the Zambia Union of Government and Allied Workers (UG) General Secretary, Comrade John Nsululu, commended ZUFIAW for its resilience and unwavering commitment to protecting the rights and interests of workers in the financial and allied sectors. He noted that in an industry marked by rapid technological advancements, corporate restructuring, and at times aggressive employer practices, ZUFIAW has remained steadfast in advocating for decent work, fair wages, job security, and humane working conditions.
The remarks were delivered on his behalf by the UG Deputy General Secretary – Administration, Comrade Chola Kakunta.
UG reaffirmed its solidarity with ZUFIAW, recognizing that the challenges facing workers in the financial sector—ranging from digitization and automation to precarious employment and the erosion of collective bargaining rights—mirror those confronting public sector workers. As such, unity and collaboration among unions are not merely symbolic but strategically essential.
