Legal Aid Provision
The Zambia Union of Government and Allied Workers (UG) regards Job protection as a fundamental aspect of our union's mission, as we strive to ensure that all employees are treated fairly and justly in their workplaces. Our primary goal is to safeguard against any form of unfair treatment that may arise in the work environment. UG actively engages in negotiations with employers to establish clear policies and practices that promote a safe and respectful workplace.
It is UG’s current endeavor to ensure members are legally represented on matters relating to litigation with the employers on employee relations. The Union currently has two home grown legal experts (Counsels), who practice privately and indeed through interactions with legal firms ensure that members that require legal expertise are legally supported through consultancy and representation for whose services UG pays. This is to ensure that they have someone to turn to when they feel vulnerable. We encourage all workers to proactively notify the union regarding any relevant issues or concerns they may have. Timely communication is very important, as it allows the union to intervene effectively and provide the necessary support or resolution. Whether it's a matter related to workplace conditions, unfair treatment, or any professional grievance, we want to ensure that your voice is heard and addressed properly. We believe that an open line of communication between the workers and the union is essential for fostering a supportive workplace environment.
